Howdy one and all. Its been a while since the last newsletter so the following offering comes as something of a compromise. What follows is a copy of an article written for the August Rip Rumour which will hopefully entertain and inform. Speaking of which all club members need to be familiar with the following dates.
September 18th round four of the open aggregate
October 16th round four of the Malibu aggregate
November13th round five of the open aggregate
November 2oth Presentation night
Be aware that all of these dates are Saturdays as the footy season is over but for the most part we will start the Groms as soon after mid day as possible to accommodate any sporting commitments. With any luck the boys will have gotten their act together with the results and you should be able to check them out through the link on the Boardclub Home Page.
Finally look upon this as a work in progress. The next instalment of the Point Lonsdale Saga will deal with the back beach and beyond. Look forward to reading about the further exploits of the likes of Mick Davey, Paul Window, Peter Penjo Elliot and all the usual suspects. I will get stuck into that episode ASAP so watch this space.
Cheers for the mo

Winter grinds on and the Boardriders continue to brave the conditions in order to complete all rounds of the aggregate competition. This time round it was the turn of the Malibu riders to make like Penguins and dip into the chilly waters of the Lonsdale Front Beach. Round three of the aggregate Malibu division was held on Sunday the eighteenth of July in conditions that could be best described as contestable. Given the demanding conditions it was not surprising that the experienced heads came to the for. After two heats where some of the more fancied young guns bit the dust, the final resembled a late sixties early seventies flash back with Graeme Slade, Dave Ogilvie and Ken Ferrier dominating the proceedings. All three surfers caught long waves on which they displayed an array of traditional and contempary moves. Oges was as always soulfull, Kens switchfoot was a classic but as usual in this division, Sladey was unbeatable with combinationns of classic drop knee turns and noserides.
Final results were
Open Mens Open Women
1 Graham Slade 1 Georgie Green
2 David Ogilvie
3 Mitch Whitley
4 Ken Ferrier
5 Keith Cohen
Well done to Georgie Green on a gutsy effort and a big thanks to the Mal committee for their efforts on the day, particularly the barbeque afterwards at which, you guessed it, a good time was had by all.
Speaking of a good time. Winter has been particularly kind in terms of surf thus far. There have been many days of offshore winds and good swell for those keen to brave the cold. There have also been a number of days at the Front Beach were wind, swell and super full tide have combined to create some of the most amazing backwash waves seen in the last decade. On one particular day Sladey swore that the ³outies² were better than the ³innies² and then proceeded to spend the next three hours putting on a show for the assembled multitude by surfing along the seawall and then out to sea in his usual classic style. So impressive was the show that mention of it was made on a Melbourne radio station. Which just proves that you are never too old to be a fun pig.
Until next time stay wet and stay warm
