NOVEMBER NEWSLETTER
Well here we are rapidly approaching the business end of the season. However before we start cracking the frosty spondooglers at presso night there are a few things that we need to sort out. First up who is going to be crowned as aggregate champion in all divisions after the final comp on November thirteenth.
At the risk of sounding a little cliched the results in most divisions are down to the wire. In the opens, dark horse Deano has now posted two wins for the season, and lets face it, there is no reason that he shouldnÕt win another. Will three be enough? The mans pretty hard to stop in any conditions and on any equipment. Talk about the cat amongst the pigeons! Speaking of which the rumour on the grape vine is that Phippsy will be back from France for the last comp and between him and Dean its going to be pretty hard to squeeze into the top three. Cols still in with a chance and Greeny must still be in with a sniff and so ultimately the final result for the open aggregate will be decided on November the thirteenth.
In the juniors Lachy and Chris Martin are fighting it out for the top two spots with daylight a distant third. Again the ultimate result will be decided on the day of the final comp. The Junior girls is also still wide open with the Kenwoods, Crowley Cloughs, Rowes and Ferriers looking good for podium finishes.
In the Cadets it looks very much like Stewie Little might have the show wrapped up but you cant discount the possibility of one of the Orvos having a blinder. And what of the Ocean Grove influence? The boys have been noticeable by their absence from the last comp but with the Grove season wrapped up you can expect them back in force for this one and as I read it there is still one or two in striking distance across most divisions.
Which brings us to the over forties. What a bloody shemozzle this is turning into. With Gags and myself missing the last comp the door was opened for Mitch and Cohey. However Wesso crashed the party and now top place could conceivably go to any of the afore mentioned. And donÕt mention the mal division. With the last comp having been run and won, dark horse Deano again threw a spanner in the works by beating all of the favoured contenders. Does this mean he could finish top three in the mals as well as the open?
Important dates to remember are obviously the thirteenth of November for the final comp and the twentieth of November for the presentation night at the Surf Life Saving Club. Kick Off at the club will be at six and we will be licensed to one in the morning. At this stage it looks as though there will be a ten dollar cover charge per person and a thirty dollar charge per family. For this you will get entry and a meal of cold chicken, salad and hot pizza followed up with some tasty treats for desert. We decided to go the take away option this year as it keeps the boys off the barbie and means less work for all concerned. As well as all this there will be entertainment of both the audio and the visual kind to keep the discerning punter deliriously happy.
Also coming up is the election of office bearers for next year. At this stage I can safely say that I will not be available for another term as president and a number of the existing committee will also be unavailable next year. This leaves the door open to anyone who has an interest in the club and could see themselves becoming involved in any capacity. Personally I hope that some of the younger crew get off their butts and get involved. There has been a bit of whingeing from certain quarters about the direction that the club has taken and for those involved now is the perfect time to stand up and be counted. In terms of infrastructure the club has never been stronger. We have our own generator, tent, DVD player, competition gear, rescue board, unsold t shirts, caps stubby holders and money in the bank. All we need next year is an enthusiastic band of crew to continue the good work. Speaking of which a huge thank you is owed to this years committee who have done a top job and are largely responsible for the great shape the club finds itself in today.
This year the election of office bearers will be slightly different. At the bottom of this page you will find a form on which you may nominate yourself or somebody else to fill any position on the committee. Remember vacancies to be filled will include, President, Secretary, Treasurer, Junior Rep, Female Rep, Malibu Rep{responsible for mal sub committee} and a number of general committee positions. To nominate or be nominated you must be a financial member of the club, place your completed nomination form in the box provided on presso night or deliver your nomination to one of the current committee. Remember kids, be sensible!!! As a follow up one of the committee will be in contact to make sure your nomination is legit and then we will vote on the nominations as a club at the presso night for the Davo comp on the Australia Day long weekend. It is hoped that this process will remove any perceived unfairness in the nomination procedure and also make for a speedy AGM.
I guess the only other thing left to do is encourage everyone to check out the web page at www.ripview.com.au as their has been a fair bit of work put into it this year by various people not the least of whom is Rowey who has been doing a sterling job as Webmaster. Check out the photos, most supplied by Stevo, which give a great perspective on some of the fantastic surf we have enjoyed for comps in the past two years. If you are desperate for a read check out some the rants that I have posted concerning local surf spots and surfers of the past few decades. The last one dealt with the Back beach and could have been written a little differently had I had a crack at the present ripper left hand bank before the time of writing. Has anyone seen anything like that around here before EVER !!!
Anyway Cheers to one and all and thanks to everybody involved in the club for making us what we are today (a bunch of surfie delinquents who will never grow up?)
